Weekly Advice From Someone Who’s Been There – Week 15

After 14 weeks of learning content, completing projects, writing assignments, and doing quizzes, it’s finally here; Exam Week. You’ve worked hard to get here, and on one hand you’ve only got one more week left until the Holiday Break! On the other, though, this is probably the most stressful time of year. Trying to study for exams, finishing up last minute assignments, while maintaining all your other extra-curriculars? It can be crazy, and overwhelming. That’s why it’s important to keep a few things in mind while you finish school.

  • Take a breather! You can’t retain as much information when you’re burnt out. The best practice is to study for 30-60 minutes and take a 10 minute break to decompress
  • Go to sleep! If you don’t get a goodnights sleep you’re not going to be as sharp the next day. Adults need on average 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Pulling an all-nighter and fueling up on coffee and energy drinks won’t help you in the long run.
  • Eat Something! I know it can be hard to find the time, but it is seriously important to make sure that you’re eating all 3 meals per day. It will be hard to focus on your exam if your stomach is throwing a fit because you skipped out on breakfast!
  • Ask for help! There are so many people at Fleming that want to see you succeed. If you need help understanding a concept you can reach out to tutoring and make an appointment. If you want the best study tips then head on down to Learning Support! And don’t forget, you’re teachers are more than happy to help you out if you give them enough notice.

Following these tips will ensure that you’re best prepared to deal with this stressful exam season. And remember, if things get too overwhelming, Fleming has an amazing Counselling department who are always there to help students.
